Food. Food! Food!
First day, with new beggining and new hope, we attempt to wake up early morning at 5 something and set off to SIK at 6.30 am. After long travelling we finally reach at 7.50am. Mr Chin , health inspector of Disease Control Division welcome us with his warm smile and humurous talking + super duper delicious breakfast( nasi lemak).

Our first lecture begin with Mr Chin breifing about organisation structure and job responisibilities of each unit under District Health Office such as Food Quality and Safety, Occupational Health and Environment, Quality of Water, etc. We enjoy the interaction with Mr Chin by asking the recently hot issues, Chikungunya and Dengue outbreak at Sik. Surprisingly we find out from him that Chikungunya seldom affect paediatrics group compared to adult?!He also encourages us to take part with their activities such as PROSTAR, fogging, attend court( food poisoning( Salmonella infection).

After lunch session, Dr. Noorul Emilin, who is friendly with her sweetest smile all the time explain to us about the public health and the health care system of SIK. According to her, jururawat masyarakat( community nurse) are usually the first one who have direct contact with the community at poorer district.

Even though we felt bit tired of travelling, however, this is a good opportunity for us to walk into the community and promote health! All the best to my group member in this district posting!

  1. Dear students,

You mentioned that Chikungunya seldom affects the paediatrics age group as compared to adults.Do you know the reason why??

    Kindly respond to this.

When you learn about vector control unit activities, make an attempt to see how the cases of Chikungunya and Dengue are monitored and managed. What is the referral system and the activities for surveillance int he district.

Find out how areas with an outbreak are identified.

    Regards
