Second day at Sik

Today is the second day posting at Sik. Since we are travelling to Sik everyday, we woke up early and reached Sik at around 8.30am. after a short briefing from the staff nurse, we then followed them to SEKOLAH KEBANGSAAN BANDAR BARU BERIS JAYA, which is located at Jeniang. this is the primary school!!!

We were here this morning to join the staff nurse for a school health programme. This program comprises vaccination programme, physical examination, visual test and measuring height and weight of the children.

this is the liquid multi vitamin which we brought
along from Klinik Kesihatan and it will be given to those children who are
under weight

this is ubat cacing(not ubat untuk cacing), it is
for deworming, the "lucky" chosen one to have
this medication are children with a tense
abdomen, pale palpable fissure , under weight and
malnourish looking children.

this is the ice box which stored the
vaccine. it has a thermometer in it and the
temperature is being maintained at
2 to 8 degrees Celsius.

we come, we see, we understand, and we jot down!!!

the restless cutie little primary one school children,
they are restless as they know they will have injection today!!!

The programme of the day started off with revising the hand washing steps, these children were taught the correct steps of washing hands and it is amazing that most of them can do it the correct way!!!

then, we start to work!!!!! GO GO GO!!!

Loges is distributing the 'buku record kesihatan murid-murid', this is the book which record the health status details of the school children,as well as the record of the vaccine that they received. vaccine will only be given to those children who have consent from their parent.

Sul Na is doing physical examination by first checking the old BCG scar, hair, scalp, ear, eye, neck, skin, upper and lower limbs, the student's hygiene and nutritional status.

Nitiyanantam, our group leader is checking the neck of the children.

Nithya in action, she was conducting the visual test.

Siva was taking the weight of the child.

Loges is working together with the staff nurse to record down the results of the the tests.

Yin Ying(this is me!!!), i m listening to the chest of the children. All of them are healthy and their heart sounds are so strong n their lung sounds are so clear. This is very different from what i heard from the children in the paediatrics wad as those in the wards are poor little sick children.

This is the first student who receive the injection of the MMR vaccine. We were told that next year will be the last year of giving the rubella vaccination. This boy is so brave that he is so calm he did not shed a tear. There are some girls who were so scared that they were crying loud,as what shown in the picture below.... poor little girl...
cry no more.... smile....

more photos with the "post" injection group, we were
smiling but they are not as they are still in pain!!!

this picture seems like telling us
this is cikgu ramu with his beloved students.......

however,

the fact is,
ramu is lining up with them to buy food during their recess time!!!

Our lunch time, i think we are a pretty lucky group as today they provide us lunch!!!
the nasi goreng udang was nice n the drinks was refreshing!!!

*****************************************break time*****************************************

then, after our lunch break, we were brought to KLINIK DESA BERIS JAYA. the community nurse(jururawat masyarakat) told us a lot about the facilities in the klinik desa, such as the antenatal clinic, the family planning program, the vaccination program. The fridge which stored the vaccine will be only open at 8 am and 4 pm, so we were lucky to have the opportunity to look at the inside of the fridge. There is a special max-min thermometer inside the fridge. this is the klinik desa's time table.

Today was quite tiring as we need to travel to Sik and then to the primary school and then to klinik desa, however, we did learn a lot, especially the knowledge that are not found in the books....

Thanks a lot all the staff in the primary school and staff nurses, who guided us and opened up our eyes...
We will be looking forward to tomorrow's activity even more as we are going to see how examination of blood smeared slaids to detect filariasis is being done.

As for myself, i had a great day and it is my pleasure to have my DHO posting with my lovely "SIK" groupmates!!!!

  1. Dear students,

I think you need to mention about all that you saw yesterday in Klinik Desa. Please be a little more specific about the activities covered yesterday.

Read about cold chain maintenance at Klinik.

    Best luck
